TAX BREAKS FOR OIL COMPANIES
Congress Decides
Congress was approached today by top executives of the US’s largest oil companies to clarify why they should get billions of dollars in tax breaks…even though our wallets are being emptied out at the gas tank. There are many Americans out there who are very concerned about the future prices of oil and gas. Plenty of Americans at this point in time are having a hard time filling their cars, heating and cooling their homes and businesses. The United States uses nearly twenty-five percent of the world’s oil, which adds up to 10,000 gallons of oil used per day. The issue that oil companies have right now is the amount of money they are receiving in tax breaks. The House voted recently to end the $18 billion tax break and in return use the money to support wind, solar, and other renewable energy sources. However, it has not been passed by the Senate yet. What do you think will happen?

GREASY POLLUTION FINE
Alabama Bio Diesel Spill
Alabama’s first bio diesel plant that turns soybean oil into “clean” fuel has experienced and ironic twist. Residents of Moundville noticed a oily substance in the river, after following the mess upstream, the source was discovered to be the plant. The pollution leaving the plant and entering the river was more than 450 times over the allowable limit, and it had already spread more than two miles downstream. The pollution, although isn’t harmful to humans is killing fish because the substance it removes all of the oxygen from the water; and at the same time it kills birds too, “for birds, a vegetable oil spill is just as deadly as a crude oil spill.” Alabama Bio diesel refused to comment on the issue and asked the complaint be dismissed because they had paid the fine of $12,370.

RACE FOR PRESIDENCY 2008
They All Face Off
After another primary election for the 2008 Presidential Campaign, Senator Clinton’s victories over Texas, Ohio, and Rhode Island have revitalized her campaign against Senator Barack Obama after his twelve contest winning streak. The next Democratic contest is the Wyoming caucuses this Saturday, March 8th and the Mississippi primary is on Tuesday, March 11th.
Before today our current President has not publicized his support for any candidates, but it is now known the President Bush is behind the Republican, John McCain. President Bush and Senator McCain were rivals in the 2000 Presidential race. Bush has announced that he will be helping McCain raise money and stand with him at one of these upcoming rallies. The start of Senator McCain’s general election campaign begins now which gives him an advantage since the Democrats haven’t chosen a candidate.
